In Hooghalen in the province Drenthe you find concentration camp Westerbork where hundreds of thousands of people come to visit and to find the answer to the question “What has happened here?”.
In memory of the 102,000 prisoners that didn’t return after leaving for a transit camp there is a monument built up of 102,000 stones in the shape of the outlines of Netherlands. Other sights to see are a guard tower and living quarters.
During your trip you can also visit the museum and various exhibitions like the fixed exhibition Durchgangslager Westerbork, but the most impressive will always be the remains of the camp where you literally walk through the history of the camp.
